Ashok Dandasena of Odisha Police won the men’s race at the Paradip Marathon-2023, organised by the Sports Council of Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on the occasion of the Port Foundation Day on Tuesday, while Samsad Ara Begum from Khurda claimed the title in the women’s category.
Dandasena completed the race in 43 minutes 06.7 seconds to win the first prize. Arjun Tudu from Jamshedpur got the second prize while Lakhan Soren of Jamshedpur got the third prize in this category.
In the women category, Samsad Ara Begum won the top honour by completing the distance in 53 minutes 40.6 seconds, while Puja Behera from Balasore got the second prize and Sandhya Murmu from Mayurbhanj won the third prize.
PPA Chairman PL Haranadh graced the valedictory function as the chief guest and IFFCO Paradip SGM as guest of honour and gave away cash awards to the winners in the presence of PPA Heads of the Departments and members of Paradip Ladies club at the valedictory function held at the Gopabandhu Stadium.
Addressing the gathering, the PPA Chairman highlighted how the Team PPA has clocked all-time record monthly Cargo Handling among all Major Ports in the country by achieving 12.6 MMT mark in December 2022. The Port is now vying for the coveted 130 MMT mark in the current fiscal, Haranadh said while congratulating the employees, family members, importers, exporters, unions, PPP operators and other stakeholders for this remarkable achievement.
As a marathon involves running a greater distance untiringly, organising the event like Paradip Marathon on the occasion of 62nd Port Foundation Day has its own significance, the PPA Chairman said adding that PPA should continue its marathon to achieve better accomplishment in the coming days.
Haranadh lauded the participants who have come from different parts of the country to join the marathon.
A total of 364 competitors, 314 male and 50 female, participated in the run.
Earlier, the PPA Chairman flagged off the Marathon at the Hanuman Temple Square. The marathon covered a route of 14 Kms and concluded at Gopabandhu Stadium amid great encouragement by the inhabitants of Port Township and members of various organizations.
The marathon was conducted smoothly with the active support of the officials and technical members of the Paradip Port Sports Council and Odisha Olympic Association.
