PURI, JULY 13, 2024 (TBB BUREAU): Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL) celebrated Odisha’s rich cultural heritage with a vibrant tribute during the auspicious Rath Yatra in Puri. As part of its ‘Saluting the Expert’ initiative, DBL honored four esteemed artisans with the ‘DSP Expert Rath Shilpkar Samman’ for their exceptional craftsmanship in creating the majestic chariots that grace the streets during the annual festival.
Laxman Mohapatra Maharana, Shyam Sundar Maharana, Surendra Maharana, and Rabi Bhoi, all revered members of the Maharana community, were recognized for their meticulous artistry. Each artisan received accolades including plaques, shawls, and a cash award of Rs 10,000, highlighting their dedication to sustaining Odisha’s unique craft traditions.
Launched in 2022, the ‘Saluting the Expert’ initiative underscores DBL’s commitment to fostering and preserving Odisha’s cultural heritage. By celebrating the Rath Shilpkars, DBL pays tribute to their pivotal role in the grandeur of the Jagannath Rath Yatra, a festival acclaimed globally.
A spokesperson for Dalmia Bharat expressed pride in acknowledging the masterful craftsmanship of Odisha’s Rath Shilpkars, emphasizing the company’s enduring commitment to the state and its cultural legacy.

Concurrently, DBL organized festivities across five cities in Odisha — Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Jajpur, and Berhampur. These events showcased life-sized replicas of the chariots crafted by members of the Maharana community, engaging channel partners and their families. Children enjoyed miniature chariots and other tokens, fostering a spirit of celebration and inclusivity.
