Dalmia Bharat Foundation empowers women through successful training program in Odisha

Lanjiberna/Bhubaneswar, May 27, 2024: The Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd. (DBL), India’s leading cement company, celebrated a significant milestone with the completion of the first training session at its newly established DIKSHa (Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing) centre in Lanjiberna, Odisha. The valedictory ceremony honoured 30 trainees who completed the General Duty Assistant training in the Home Healthcare sector, achieving a remarkable 94% placement rate.

Highlighting a notable achievement, 29 out of the 30 trainees were women, reflecting DBF’s commitment to empowering women, promoting gender equality, and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. Following their training, the trainees will be certified by the Health Care Sector Skill Council, which operates under the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals.

The newly inaugurated DIKSHa centre in Lanjiberna is dedicated to offering skill training and employment opportunities to youth from neighbouring villages. The centre provides courses for careers as General Duty Assistants, Sewing Machine Operators, and Business Correspondents. The ceremony was attended by Ramesh Chandra Kisan, District Skill Development cum Employment Officer, Rourkela, and Jagannath Prasad Mohanty, Center Manager, DIKSHa Lanjiberna.

Commenting on the occasion, Chetan Srivastava, Executive Director of DCBL and Unit Head of Rajgangpur, stated, “At Dalmia Bharat, we are dedicated to creating gender-agnostic and inclusive programs that positively impact women in society. Our DIKSHa centers play a pivotal role in bridging skill gaps and empowering youth with sustainable livelihood opportunities. Addressing the demand gaps in the healthcare sector is crucial for providing quality care to our communities. Through this training, we aim to empower the next generation of healthcare professionals with industry-standard skills, thereby enhancing the healthcare infrastructure. We congratulate all the trainees on their successful completion of the program. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to NSDC for their unwavering support and collaboration.”

DIKSHa, the flagship project of the Dalmia Bharat Foundation, operates 20 functional centers across its regions of operations and has trained 15,709 individuals to date, with monthly wages ranging from INR 8,000 to INR 20,000. These initiatives significantly improve the quality of life for trainees, reinforcing DBF’s role in promoting sustainable community development. In FY 2024, 63% of the enrolled youth were females, underscoring a strong gender focus and significant participation of young women in acquiring essential skills.
