Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati was sworn in as the Governor of Odisha during a ceremonious event at the Raj Bhavan on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Chakradhari Sharan Singh, in the Abhishek Hall amidst the presence of dignitaries and state leaders.

Dr Kambhampati succeeds Raghubar Das, who stepped down citing personal reasons. The event was graced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and other prominent figures.

Earlier, Dr Kambhampati’s arrival in Odisha was marked by a warm welcome. Landing at Bhubaneswar Airport on Thursday, he received a ceremonial guard of honor before heading to the Raj Bhavan. Later that evening, he visited Puri to offer prayers at the revered Jagannath Temple, underscoring his deep spiritual roots.

Dr Kambhampati’s appointment as Odisha Governor by the President of India on December 24, 2024, comes after a distinguished career in academia, politics, and public service. Holding a PhD in Control Systems from Andhra University, he served as an Associate Professor at Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years.

His political journey is equally remarkable. A participant in the Lok Sangharsh Samithi agitation led by Jayaprakash Narayan during the Emergency, he was detained under MISA for his activism. Rising through the ranks, he became the Andhra Pradesh BJP State President from 2014 to 2018, leaving an indelible mark on the party’s organizational framework.

Dr Kambhampati’s assumption of office ushers in a new chapter of leadership for Odisha, with expectations of leveraging his rich academic and political experience for the state’s progress.
