India’s leading and most secure healthcare crowdfunding platform ImpactGuru.com today said that more than 100 critically ill patients from various parts of Odisha were benefited from donations up to Rs 10 crore through crowdfunding to support their medical expenses and bills between January 2021 and April 2022.
These crowdfunding campaigns supported by ImpactGuru were started by patients suffering from various rare and critical diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), various types of cancer, brain tumor, and surgeries to name a few.
Some of the campaigners/patients in Odisha have been undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, SUM Hospitals, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), and AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar.
“People’s trust in our platform and the increasing number of campaigns from Odisha motivates us to work harder towards our aim of bridging the gap of affordable healthcare financing for 10 lakh patients in the coming decade across India,” said Piyush Jain, Co-Founder and CEO, ImpactGuru.com
Healthcare crowdfunding is an alternative method of raising donations online for medical expenses of the patient primarily through social media networks with the help of donors across the country. With a novel fundraising strategy, ImpactGuru supports people across all income groups to raise funds and awareness about critical diseases that require immediate medical attention.
“The current Indian healthcare scenario witnesses 80 people get hospitalized every minute. A vast majority of our society lacks the required medical insurance to support the treatment of critical and rare diseases. In such cases, taking the route of crowdfunding is the best alternative for any individual that allows them to raise money in a hassle-free manner without any payback liability to donors,” said Jain adding that ImpactGuru provides a transparent platform for an individual to create their own fundraiser campaign and a donor to donate money in the most secure manner.
Citing an example, ImpactGuru.com sources said Prabal Mallick from Odisha started a fundraiser on ImpactGuru.com to raise funds for his father Golak Mallick who was admitted to MDCCU (MULTI DISCIPLINARY CRITICAL CARE UNIT) at Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar. Golak was rushed to the hospital when he collapsed on 6th July 2020 and was diagnosed with Intra Cerebral Hemorrhage (Brain Stroke). Since he was having massive bleeding in three places in his brain, an urgent surgical procedure was carried out for decompression. With very less time in hand and the treatment amount being higher than what they could afford, Mallick’s family started a crowdfunding campaign that received immense support from donors across the country. The platform successfully raised about 94% of the required funds for the treatment. Out of the required amount of Rs 20 lakh, ImpactGuru was able to raise Rs 18,76,487 from various donations.
ImpactGuru stringently verifies a campaigner’s information through identity proofs, medical bills, and other relevant documents. Donors donating via ImpactGuru receive timely updates in the form of images, emails, and the team updates the fundraiser page as per the developments in the case.
Till date, ImpactGuru has raised over Rs 2000 crore with the help of more than 2 million donors, saved lives of over 25,000 patients and positively impacted more than 5 lakh lives and aims to help finance the critical illnesses of 10 lakh patients over the next decade.
