Jindal Steel and Power, Hindalco bag coal mines in Odisha

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 11, 2022

Naveen Jindal-led Jindal Steel and Power bagged Utkal-C coal mine while while Aditya Birla Group company Hindalco Industries was the highest bidder for the Meenakshi Mine in Odisha during the second and third days of auction of coal blocks for commercial use.

BS Ispat Ltd bagged the Majra mine in Maharashtra, while Assam Mineral Development Corporation got the Garampani coal block in Assam. Bidding for Namchik Namphuk mine in Arunachal Pradesh was in progress.

“On the second and third day of the e-auction (February 9-10), cumulative five coal mines were put up for auction,” the Coal Ministry said in a statement.

The five coal mines are fully explored and have total geological reserves of 528.051 million tonne.

The cumulative peak rated capacity (PRC) for these coal mines is 16.07 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

On the first day of auction on February 8, five blocks were sold.
