BHUBANESWAR, JUNE 24, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):
Responding to escalating train traffic and congestion at Khurda Road Station, the Ministry of Railways has greenlit a substantial infrastructure initiative. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) had previously proposed the construction of a Flyover Bridge aimed at streamlining operations on the Howrah-Chennai Main Line and Khurda Road-Puri Branch Line.
Estimated at a cost of Rs 191.87 crore, this project falls under the Energy Corridor Scheme of Indian Railways, signalling a strategic move to enhance operational capacity in a critical rail section.
The Flyover Bridge, spanning a length of 7.41 km, is set to mitigate growing train traffic woes by establishing a dedicated pathway for trains from Puri to connect seamlessly to the down line towards Bhubaneswar, bypassing intersecting lines at Khurda Road Station.
Khurda Road Railway Station, a crucial junction, handles diverse train movements. The new flyover will enable simultaneous movements of trains on the Bhubaneswar-Brahmapur and Khurda Road-Puri Rail Sections, eliminating previous delays caused by cross-traffic intersections.
This development is expected to vastly improve travel experiences for passengers and bolster operational capabilities in the region. Once operational, the flyover will allow for seamless train movements between Puri and destinations southward without interruptions at Khurda Road, thus optimizing overall railway efficiency.
The Indian Railways remains committed to advancing infrastructure nationwide, with this flyover at Khurda Road representing a pivotal stride towards reducing congestion and enhancing operational efficacy.
