OMECL signs agreement with MSA, IDEPX for mineral resource mapping & development of auctionable blocks

Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. (OMECL) on Thursday signed an agreement with consortium of MSA, South Africa and IDPeX (India) to optimise the exploration of mineral deposits resulting in inventory of auctionable blocks of different minerals in Odisha.

The agreement was signed by Director (Geology), OMECL SK Sinha, MSA MD Dr. Ian Haddon and IDPeX MD S Karunakar Rao in presence of Steel & Mines Department Principal Secretary & OMECL Chairman DK Singh, Mines Director Debidutta Biswal, OMECL Managing Director Balwant Singh and delegates including Director of Geology, Odisha and officials from Geological Survey of India.

The exploration work will ensure the effective use of legacy data from various exploration agencies of Odisha, followed by Airborne and Heliborne Surveys resulting in bringing out potential mineral blocks of different mineral commodities. The exploration programme will be conducted using the latest technology as per international standards.

Speaking on the occasion, DK Singh said, “Odisha is a mineral rich state. However, a large part of the State is still unexplored. This exploration program will lead to the discovery of hidden mineral deposits across the state using the latest technology, which will help the state utilise the mineral resources for the development of the State.”

The OMECL Managing Director said that with this project Odisha will get a structured and comprehensive Mineral Resource Map in coming days. He urged the Geological Survey of India, Directorate of Geology and all the related agencies to extend necessary cooperation and support for the timely achievement of every milestone under this initiative.
