Despite the extreme conditions, Odisha Discoms’ linemen emerge as unsung heroes, tirelessly working to uphold a consistent electricity supply for the state’s 4.5 crore residents.
Over 25,000 linemen from TPCODL, TPNODL, TPSODL, and TPWODL discoms are on the front lines, ensuring that homes and businesses receive uninterrupted power, even amidst record-breaking heatwaves.
Recognizing the paramount importance of safety, the Government of Odisha has enforced a work ban from 11 am to 3 pm to shield workers from the extreme heat. Additionally, Odisha Discoms have implemented proactive measures, including comprehensive training programs such as ‘Tool Box Talk,’ where supervisors educate linemen on sun safety measures. These initiatives empower workers to mitigate risks while operating in sweltering conditions.
Linemen are equipped with essential safety gear, including helmets, water bottles, ORS packets, and first aid materials, ensuring their well-being amidst the challenging conditions. Safety advisories are disseminated through various channels, including posters, banners, and WhatsApp messages, reinforcing the importance of precautionary measures.
Specialized training in sunstroke care equips linemen to recognize and respond promptly to heat-related emergencies. Given the exigencies of their work in peak summer conditions, this training is invaluable in ensuring the safety and health of linemen on the ground.
Despite the sweltering heat, Odisha’s linemen demonstrate unwavering resilience, ensuring uninterrupted power supply while prioritizing their safety and well-being. Their dedication and commitment play a pivotal role in safeguarding the state’s energy infrastructure and ensuring the comfort and convenience of its residents, even in the face of unprecedented challenges.
