The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) observed the closing ceremony of the National Fire Service Week on Thursday. The National Fire Service Day is observed on April 14 every year to pay homage to the brave firemen and officers who lost their lives in the Bombay Dock Explosion on April 14, 1944 and on subsequent occasions. The same is followed by a week-long special fire safety awareness campaign from April 14 to 20.
A massive fire safety awareness drive was conducted from April 3 to 20 this year under the guidance of the PPA Chairman, so as to educate the Port workers and stakeholders as well as local public and school children about fire hazard, fire prevention and fire-fighting. The theme for the year 2023 was: “Awareness in Fire Safety for Growth of National Infrastructure (AGNI)”.
The closing function was held at the Main Fire Station of CISF Fire Wing.
PPA Chairman PL Haranadh who graced the programme as the chief guest, stressed on creating fire safety awareness among stakeholders and appreciated the organizers for successfully conducting the Housekeeping Competition at Paradip Port.
He further stated that due to the dedication and devotion to duty, CISF Fire Wing is now the most sought-after fire fighting force in the country having a strength of 8734 fire-fighters; and is providing fire safety coverage to 109 Maharatna and Navratna Companies/PSUs as on date.
In his speech, the PPA Chairman also urged the CISF Fire Wing personnel to conduct regular training and mock-drills not only during Fire Service Week but also throughout the year so as to be well prepared for any kind of eventuality. “Fire management must be the responsibility of all the stakeholders so that during emergencies, we can tackle without loss of property and lives,” Haranadh said.
At the outset, CISF Commandant Akshat Patel welcomed the invitees and presented the annual report. An attractive live Fire-fighting Rescue and Disaster Management Demonstration was shown on the occasion. Prizes were distributed by the chief guest and other distinguished guests to the winners of various Essay, Quiz, Drawing and Slogan Competitions and Fire Drill Competitions organized during the Mass Fire Safety Awareness and Sensitization Campaign for schools including Bethany, DAV, KV, NAC School etc. and Paradip Port College, Marine Academy as well as homemakers and wards of CISF and Coast Guard and Port employees.
A Special Housekeeping Competition was also held and trophies were presented by the Chairman on the occasion.
At the end, Deputy Commandant/Fire Bishnu Swarup presented a vote of thanks.
