Paradip, August 29, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Paradip Port Sports Council marked National Sports Day with a spirited celebration on Thursday at Gopabandhu Stadium, here. The event, held annually on August 29th, commemorates the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players in history. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of sports and physical fitness in daily life.
The celebration at Gopabandhu Stadium saw the presence of Paradip Port Sports Council President DN Sondhi, Working President DP Sethy, and Secretary RR Beura. Addressing the gathering, they emphasized the significance of National Sports Day in promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a sports culture in the community. They underscored the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, whose achievements on the hockey field continue to inspire generations.
Volleyball Coach Sanjaya Kumar Das, Joint Secretaries Itishree Mohanty and Dhuna Charan Tarai, along with other technical members, staff of Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad, and players, were also present at the event.
