Rourkela Steel Plant ends FY2022-23 with string of records

SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) ended the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) with a string of records in key production areas. The Steel Plant surpassed 4 million tonne (MT) crude steel production mark for the first time in its history in the last fiscal. RSP produced 40,38,977 tonnes of crude steel in FY23 to record its all-time high figures, thereby improving upon its earlier best production figure of 39,87,259 tonnes achieved in the previous fiscal.

The Steel Melting Shop-II was the major contributor in achieving the feat by producing an all time high of 35,53,624 tonnes for any fiscal. Hot metal production from Blast Furnace-5 (BF-5) also touched an all-time high of 27,64,275 tonnes in the last fiscal improving upon its earlier best figure of 27,57,190 tonnes achieved in FY2016-17. The saleable steel production witnessed record high figure of 37,71,847 tonnes. The state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 led the finishing mills by producing 17,73,243 tonnes of HR coils to create its all time best fiscal performance. The trend was reflected in the dispatch also with the Plant registering the best saleable steel dispatch of 37,71,270 tonnes in 2022-23.

The Sinter Plants excelled in tandem to produce 70,12,003 tonnes of sinter and register best performance for any financial year. Similarly, by clocking an average pushing of 90.1, the Coke Oven Battery-6 achieved its best annual performance.

RSP also surpassed major milestone of producing 100 MT of crude steel in the last fiscal.
