Rourkela, July 4, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved remarkable milestones in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25), underscoring its position as a leader in the steel industry. From April to June 2024, RSP recorded its highest-ever production of Saleable Steel, totalling 10,68,283 tonnes, surpassing the previous record of 9,72,974 tonnes set in the corresponding period last year (CPLY). This achievement was bolstered by the exceptional performance of the state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill, which produced a record 6,03,851 tonnes of HR coils during this period.
June 2024 marked another milestone for RSP, with record monthly outputs across key production metrics. Hot Metal production reached 3,77,792 tonnes, while Crude Steel production stood at 3,42,966 tonnes, and Saleable Steel production peaked at 3,86,784 tonnes, setting new benchmarks for monthly performance.
In addition to its production feats, RSP demonstrated exemplary techno-economic performance. The plant achieved its best-ever Q1 specific energy consumption of 5.95 Giga Calories per tonne of crude steel, surpassing the previous record of 6.0 Giga Calories per tonne. June 2024 continued this trend with a record specific energy consumption of 5.9 Giga Calories per tonne of crude steel.
Operational excellence was further highlighted by achievements such as the best-ever Monthly Blast Furnace #5 Coke Rate of 362 Kg per tonne of Hot Metal and the Best in India Torpedo Ladle campaign life of 3,009 heats in June 2024.
Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge of RSP, emphasized the importance of strategic planning and execution amidst challenges like monsoon disruptions. “Every task we perform, every machine we operate, and every procedure we follow impacts our society,” he noted, urging continued dedication to surpass expectations and achieve sustainable growth.
