In a significant move to reinforce its position as a key player in the steel industry, SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Thursday announced its intention to expand its production capacity by an impressive 1.5 to 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of crude steel. This expansion will be achieved through the widely recognized Blast Furnace-Basic Oxygen Furnace (BF-BOF) route. The expanded capacity will be realized within the New Steel Melting Shop-I (SMS-I) facility, RSP said in a press release.

Accordingly a strategic Consultancy Agreement was signed between RSP and M.N. Dastur & Company (P) Ltd. on Wednesday.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to prepare a comprehensive Pre-Feasibility Report (Pre-FR) and Detailed Project Report. Additionally, the scope of the agreement encompasses the formulation of Technical Specifications, Commercial Volume analysis, bid evaluation, Price Evaluation, and contract preparation.

Notably, RSP’s ambitious expansion plan aligns perfectly with the rising demand for steel across various sectors. By leveraging the BF-BOF route, known for its efficiency and effectiveness in steel production, RSP aims to further cement its role as a leading steel producer on a global scale.
