SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited) Foundation Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Tuesday. RSP Director In-charge Atanu Bhowmick was the Chief Guest of SAIL Day function organised at Ispat stadium. The DIC unfurled the SAIL flag amidst the sail anthem and released the balloons to mark the beginning of the celebration. The pledge ‘I shall keep myself in good health to serve better.’ was also administered to all at this momentous occasion.
The DIC thereafter flagged of the most awaited 5 kilometer long walk and run event organized by RSP which witnessed enthusiastic participation by employees and former employees of sail as well their family members. About 2000 persons including men, women and youngsters took part in it.
Present on the occasion were ED (Works)SR Suryawanshi, ED (P&A) PK Satapathy, ED (MM) Somnath Tripathy, ED (M&HS) Dr. BK Hota, CISF DIG Shikhar Sahai and a large number of other senior officers and employees
In the award giving ceremony the dignitaries gave away prizes to the winners in various categories of the walk and run competition. The best clocking award in men’s category was won by Ashish Kumar Dung Dung from SAIL Hockey Academy who completed the run in 17.05.01 mins while in female category the award was bagged by Sonia Kujur from Nilasaila College who registered 22.32.37 mins. The Raw Material Handling Plant Departments bagged the Best Participating Department award for highest number of participants. Deepika Ispat Siksha Sadan, Sector – 18 won the Best Participating School award with the highest number of participants in the walk and run.
A spectacular cultural programme was staged on this occasion on the theme of SAIL Foundation Day and Hockey World Cup by Sagar Rhythms dance troupe.
