The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered best ever single-day production by rolling 6,689 tons of hot rolled coils on Sunday. The previous best single-day production of 6,542 tons was achieved on March 30 this year.
The state-of-the-art HSM-2 has been setting records ever since it started rolling in October 2021. In May 2022, it rolled 1 lakh tons of slab which was a landmark. The cumulative HR (hot rolled) coil production from the Unit stands at 3,82,614 tons till June 19, 2022. Simultaneously, the Mill has so far dispatched 3,22,615 tons of coil both by rail and road.
Congratulating the Hot Strip Mill-2 collective on the stupendous achievement, RSP Director In-Charge Atanu Bhowmick said, “We have to make HSM-2 one of the finest Mills of the world in terms of quality, quantity and range. I am sure my colleagues from HSM-2 and associated departments will make all out efforts to roll more high end products, which will give us leverage in the niche market segments.”
The Hot Strip Mill-2 with 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity is an ultra modern Mill with few parallels in India meant to roll out world-class hot rolled coils. With high level of automation, this mill would produce coils of Carbon Structural Steel, High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel, High Carbon Steel, LPG Cylinder Steel, Low Alloy Steel, API (up to X100) Pipe Steel and Auto-grade steel. Equipped with the latest and sophisticated technology, the Mill will meet the stringent requirements of the customers in terms of quality, finish, dimensions and other parameters.
