With the objective of empowering rural women through livelihood initiatives, Subarnarekha Port Private Limited (SPPL) has started a two-month training workshop on Sabai Grass handicraft products.
The women SHG members of five villages of Pratappur Gram Panchayat in Baliapal participated in the training programme, which was inaugurated by Baliapal Tehsildar Deepak Kumar Das in the presence of SPPL Senior Divisional Manager (Admin) Pramod Kumar, Tata Steel Foundation Lead –Balasore Pramod Kumar Patra, Pratappur Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Kasturi Bala Patra and other dignitaries.
The workshop will help build the capability of the members of the SHGs through training on different types of Sabai grass handicrafts, and provide a better opportunity for additional income of the members. These trained members would further train other members of SHGs on this skill.
The training is being provided by two certified empanelled trainers from Department of Handicraft, Government of Odisha. This is one of the many programs planned under livelihood initiatives of SPPL, which would be conducted in the coming days.
Commending SPPL for the initiative, Tehsildar Deepak Kumar Das said, “This initiative will help women to be financially independent and empowered. This will also supplement the central and state livelihood mission programmes like ORMAS, OLM.”
“The rural women need guidance and training to learn new skills. This workshop will help them with new livelihood opportunities,” said Kasturi Bala Patra.
