Following the privatization of electricity services in Odisha, particularly in Western Odisha, , the licensee, has led numerous initiatives to provide seamless payment options for the convenience of thousands of consumers in settling their monthly electricity bills.

While TPWODL strives to offer cutting-edge payment facilities, it remains concerning to note the persistence of defaulters across various corners of the distribution area, spanning nine revenue districts in Western Odisha. In response, the company earnestly appeals to all consumers to adopt the most convenient methods for regular bill payments, thereby availing themselves of the rebates periodically announced by the OERC.

It’s crucial to emphasize that under sections 47 and 56 of the Electricity Act 2003, consumers have a legal obligation to settle their electricity bills within the prescribed timeframe. Failure to adhere to this obligation empowers the distribution company to restrict electricity supply to delinquent consumers.

Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that the distribution company procures power from the state nodal agency and redistributes it among various consumer segments, including domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural. The company extends subsidies to the agricultural sector and offers rebates in accordance with regulatory provisions.

In essence, consumers not only have a legal responsibility but also a moral duty in nation-building. By ensuring timely payment of electricity dues, consumers contribute to the sustenance and development of vital infrastructure, thereby fostering progress and prosperity for the nation as a whole.
