TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has been relentlessly engaged in empowering local communities in its area of operations. In line with the same, various initiatives like providing livelihood opportunities to Women Self Help Groups, Mobile Health Dispensary for rural communities and Vocational Training Centers for youth and women have been established along with other community development programs.

“It is said that if you educate a man you educate an individual; if you educate a woman you educate the whole family.” With this belief, TPCODL has started 10 Women Literacy Centers in Saliasahi, Mahisikhala and Adhikhala slums of Bhubaneswar. Twenty uneducated women from local communities have been enrolled in the 6-month literacy course at each center and are being imparted training through Computer-Based Functional Literacy modules provided by Tata Consultancy Services.

Trainers involved in the Women Literacy Centers are selected from the community itself who are trained initially for further ensuring successful implementation of the program. The classes are conducted on the basis of suitable timing of beneficiaries which increases the flexibility of the program.

On this occasion, TPCODL CEO M Shenbagam said, “Women empowerment is an indispensable tool for ensuring development of the State. We plan to implement Women Literacy Centers across our license area by next year.”
