TPCODL gears up to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Rath Yatra

Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), the joint venture between Tata Power and Odisha Government, has initiated a number of measures to ensure reliable power supply during the upcoming auspicious Rath Yatra.

The DISCOM has ensured that all important areas like Jagannath temple, Gundicha temple, Sea Beach Road, CT Road and District Headquarters Hospital are provided with reliable and uninterrupted power supply through 11KV Ring Main Units, Compact Substations (CSS) and LT feeder pillar boxes.

Anticipating the increased power demand, TPCODL has made arrangements to meet the load through three different Grids viz. Puri (132/33KV), Samuka (132/33KV) and Samagara (220/132/33KV) of OPTCL.

For the better illumination of the chariots during various rituals and to provide power back-up at Bada Danda and parking areas during the entire Rath Yatra duration, TPCODL has arranged 26 DG sets of various capacity and installed HMIs and LED lights at various locations.

On the manpower front, 500 staff of TPCODL and Business Associates have been deployed to maintain uninterrupted power supply during the Car Festival 2022. Thirty officers from other divisions of TPCODL, those who have past experience of managing power supply during Rath Yatra, have been deputed at Puri for better monitoring and coordination to provide uninterrupted power supply.

TPCODL has already done fencing of more than 120 Sub Stations for public safety. Preventive maintenance of 180 feeder pillar box on Grand Road, Sea Beach Road, VIP Road and all other areas has already been completed and damaged AB cable of 12-kilometre length is replaced. The Company has also ensured thermal scanning of 535 Distribution Substations and has completed painting of insulation coat for joist poles on Grand Road and periphery area to avoid any leakage of power. All electric poles, feeder pillar box leakage power were checked and rectified for the safety point of view of pilgrims and public.

The Company has planned in advance and taken preparatory measures to deal with any emergency breakdown situation, if arises. It has already deployed two mobile transformers of 500 KVA at Puri as a back-up, cable fault locators are made available and possible emergency materials have been stocked up.
