Tata Power Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) on Friday organised an event at NOCCI Business Park here to felicitate 150 Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) of Mayurbhanj district. Sarees, badges and I’D cards were distributed to the women by Odisha Energy Minister Pratap Keshari Deb.
Other esteemed guests present on this occasion included Bhogarai MLA Anant Dash, Remuna MLA Sudhanshu Sekhar Parida, Zilla Parishad Chairman Narayan Chandra Pradhan, TPNODL Chief Executive Officer Bhaskar Sarkar, Chief of Commerce Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Head-CSR Dillip Kumar Sahoo along with other senior officials of the company.
TPNODL has engaged 320 WSHGs in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts which provides direct employment to 640 women and indirect employment opportunities to 3,600 women through this initiative. These women also called as “Urja Sakhis” have been provided with livelihood skills through digital tech and knowledge of consumer-centric operation viz. Meter reading, Billing and Collection (MBC) activities enabling them to become self-employed.
“I congratulate Team TPNODL for helping women through this initiative. This unique initiative is a step towards women empowerment and nation’s development” said Minister Pratap Keshari Deb.

Meter reading, Billing, and Collection (MBC) and are the most crucial tools for any power distribution company to function at its full potential and the sincere efforts put in by the WSHGs in meter reading and bill collection are commendable and exemplary,” said Bhaskar Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer, TPNODL.
