TPSODL expands safety awareness steps with street plays across southern Odisha

BERHAMPUR, MAY 27, 2024 (TBB BUREAU):

TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) is enhancing its safety awareness initiatives by organizing over 140 Nukkad Nataks (street plays) throughout southern Odisha during the current fiscal year. By May 2024, TPSODL had successfully conducted 61 street plays, reaching approximately 25,000 people across 61 villages and gram panchayats. This ongoing initiative, which began last year, aims to increase safety awareness among the people of Odisha.

In collaboration with local authorities and community members, TPSODL’s Nukkad Nataks have effectively raised awareness on crucial issues such as employee and animal safety, energy conservation, and the prevention of electricity theft. The plays cover a variety of themes including consumer and public safety, unauthorized hooking and construction, animal poaching, domestic electrical safety, digital payments, energy conservation, safety reporting, and the use of the 1912 Call Centre Number.

Other important topics addressed include precautions like keeping electrical equipment away from water, childproofing outlets, securing cords and outlets, using plastic guards, regularly checking for frayed wires and loose connections, and maintaining electrical appliance safety.

As of May, the initiative has achieved significant success in the Koraput and Ganjam districts, where 61 Nukkad Nataks have been performed. The remaining 79 plays are scheduled to take place across all TPSODL sections, focusing on villages and areas prone to unauthorized hooking and construction. The initiative also involves active participation from local village communities, Women’s Self Help Groups (WSHG), and NGOs, ensuring thorough community engagement.

Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, emphasized the company’s dedication to creating a safer Odisha, stating, “At TPSODL, we are committed to leading the way toward a safer Odisha. This year, we are expanding our Nukkad Nataks to over 140, deepening our engagement across our service areas to not only enhance safety awareness but also to empower and unite the communities we serve.”

In forested areas under TPSODL’s jurisdiction, such as Bhanjanagar, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Boudh, the company has primarily focused on the theme of animal safety in their Nukkad Nataks. Over a hundred such plays were conducted last year alone.

TPSODL remains dedicated to promoting a safer, more informed community through its Nukkad Natak program, reflecting its commitment to improving the quality of life and safety of the communities it serves.
