Vedanta Aluminium expands mobile health units to serve rural communities near Sijimali Mines

Rayagada, May 27, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has expanded its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) services to the rural areas surrounding the Sijimali mines in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Odisha. This initiative aims to provide essential and quality healthcare services at the doorstep of communities, improving healthcare access in remote villages. The MHU services will benefit over 10,000 individuals across 40 villages near the Sijimali mines. Vedanta Aluminium’s MHU services already reach approximately 200,000 people in over 100 villages across Odisha.

The Mobile Health Unit is a specialized van equipped with essential medical equipment and medicines, staffed by a qualified doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist. It offers a comprehensive range of services, including medical check-ups, blood sugar tests, and the provision of free medicines. Furthermore, the MHU conducts regular awareness sessions to provide preventive care, bolstering the overall well-being of the communities it serves.

Nitish Jha, Medical Officer In-charge at Thuamul Rampur village, commended Vedanta’s initiative, stating, “Vedanta’s proactive role in community development in remote areas is commendable. By meeting the healthcare needs of residents, they are creating a healthier future and ensuring that everyone has access to basic medical care.”

Malati Majhi, a local accredited social health activist, highlighted the impact of the MHU, saying, “The Mobile Health Unit is a thoughtful initiative, especially for villages lacking access to quality healthcare. Vedanta is bridging the gap by bringing necessary medical care directly to the residents.”
