Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, observed National Road Safety Week in and around its operations at Jharsuguda by organizing a week-long awareness campaign on road safety for employees, business partners and the community at large.
In line with the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha’, the company carried out awareness programs on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and observing road safety protocols. Through these efforts, the company reached out to more than 21,000 citizens in the district with this important message.
As part of the campaign, the company carried out several initiatives highlighting the importance of road safety, which included a bike rally, street play performances across the town, and a skit performance by actors playing ‘Yamraj and Chitragupt’, all of which were highly appreciated by members of the public.
These apart, training sessions were conducted at the operations to appraise employees and business partners on road safety measures, along with a medical camp for drivers, launch of ‘Suraksha Rath’ and an award distribution ceremony for business partners and employees for best safety practices and performances.
The awareness campaign was conducted in areas such as Maa Samaleswari Nagar, Katikela, Badmal Police Station, Jharsuguda bus stand and in schools and colleges across Jharsuguda.
Key administrative personnel of the district who took part in the observance of the Road Safety Week included Jharsuguda Collector Saroj Kumar Samal, Jharsuguda Regional Transportation Officer (RTO) Dinabandhu Sundi, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Loknath Meher, Jharsuguda Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirmal Mohapatra, Badmal Police Station Inspector-in-charge Amitav Panda and Jharsuguda Private Bus Owners Association President SN Das.
Speaking about the company’s safety-first culture, Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda CEO Sunil Gupta said, “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community has always been a key area of focus for us at Vedanta Jharsuguda. As part of the National Road Safety campaign, we have undertaken numerous initiatives to maximize road safety awareness at and beyond our plant operations through engaging activities, educating drivers and encouraging community members to strictly adhere to the do’s and don’ts of road safety.”
Appreciating the company’s initiatives on road safety awareness, Jharsuguda Collector Saroj Kumar Samal said, “Observing road safety behaviour should be an integral part of our daily life, and it is imperative to educate people on road safety. I commend Vedanta Aluminium for taking up the initiative to bring about awareness & responsibility about road safety in the minds of our people.”
Acknowledging the company’s efforts, RTO Dinabandhu Sundi said, “By sensitizing the public on the importance of road safety, Vedanta is extending its support to create safer communities. I thank Vedanta for raising awareness on road safety in and around our Jharsuguda community.”
