Jharsuguda, June 17, 2024 (TBB Bureau): In a gesture of compassion and commitment to community welfare, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s foremost producer of aluminium, has stepped forward to provide essential cooling assets to the District Jail in Jharsuguda. With temperatures soaring in the region, the provision of 15 air coolers, 50 ceiling fans, and a water cooler by Vedanta Aluminium will significantly alleviate the harsh living conditions for inmates, fostering a more humane environment within the facility.
The handover of these cooling assets took place in the presence of Laxmikanta Dhangada Majhi, Superintendent of District Jail, Jharsuguda, who expressed gratitude for Vedanta Aluminium’s timely support. The Superintendent emphasized the crucial role these assets will play in enhancing the inmates’ comfort during the scorching summer months.
Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium and CEO of Vedanta Jharsuguda, underscored the company’s commitment to making a tangible difference in the communities it serves. He stated, “At Vedanta Aluminium, our social responsibility extends beyond business interests. By providing essential cooling assets to the District Jail in Jharsuguda, we aim to significantly improve the living conditions for the inmates, aligning with our broader mission of holistic regional development.”
Vedanta Aluminium’s social impact initiatives span across various domains, including education, healthcare, sustainable livelihood, infrastructure, grassroots sports, and culture. These initiatives reach out to nearly 80 villages in Jharsuguda and nearby areas, benefiting over 3 lakh individuals annually. Notably, the company empowers approximately 5,000 women through over 350 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), provides doorstep healthcare services to about 50,000 people annually, and offers educational support to over 13,000 students.
