On the eve of World Music Day, India’s first K-Pop star and Jharsuguda’s pride, Sriya Lenka, was felicitated by the Jharsuguda Unit of Vedanta Limited. On behalf of the Company, Vedanta Jharsuguda CEO Sunil Gupta felicitated the 18-year-old K-Pop sensation at a function held at its plant premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said, “Odisha is a land of immense talent and Ms. Sriya is a testament to the vast young talent pool of artistes nurtured across the State. Her noteworthy achievement has put Jharsuguda in the world map that will further encourage youths in this region to stride forward in pursuit of their dreams. At Vedanta, we have always endeavoured to promote such talents; and as partners in progress of this State, we strive to ensure that more such success stories emerge from this region.”

Sriya made headlines when she became the first-ever K-Pop star from India and the fifth member of the popular South Korean pop band Blackswan. She joined the original members of the girl group — Youngheun, Fatou, Judy and Leia — along with Gabriela Dalcin (Gabi) from Brazil as the sixth member.

Sriya was selected from a global audition held by South Korean Music Label DR Music Entertainment in an effort to add members to the globally acclaimed multi-national girl group Blackswan.
