Vedanta Lanjigarh’s multi-specialty health camp benefits hundreds in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 17, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh, India’s premier producer of smelter grade alumina and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, recently organized a comprehensive multi-specialty health camp and blood donation drive in Kalahandi district, Odisha. This week-long event aimed at making healthcare services accessible featured multiple health camps and awareness drives across several remote villages in Kalahandi, witnessing notable community participation.

The campaign concluded with a major multi-specialty health camp and blood donation drive at Vedanta Hospital, drawing over 350 community members.

Attendees received free health check-ups and one-on-one consultations with specialists in general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, and dentistry, focusing on preventive screenings and curative guidance.

The blood donation drive saw tremendous support, collecting 32 units to help alleviate the critical shortage of transfusable blood in the region.

This initiative aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ‘Good Health and Well-being’ (SDG 3) and ‘Forging Partnerships to Achieve Common Goals’ (SDG 17), aiming to make a positive impact and construct a healthier future for all.

Vedanta Lanjigarh supports local communities through several additional healthcare initiatives. Vedanta Hospital, a state-of-the-art medical facility, is equipped with experienced doctors, physiotherapists, visiting specialists, and a 24×7 ambulance service, serving over 60,000 people annually. Maa Santoshi Jankalyan Hospital caters to the needs of 9 Gram Panchayats within the Bankakundru region, crucially located in the remote fringes of Lanjigarh Block. The Mobile Health Unit (MHU) is a customized vehicle that provides free primary healthcare services to underserved areas, having served over 30,000 people across 64 villages since its inception in 2006.

In addition, Vedanta Lanjigarh organizes annual cataract camps in collaboration with the renowned Netra Chikitsalaya Lepra Society, Sonepur, benefiting over 1200 people in FY24 alone. The Pehli Udaan initiative promotes better menstrual health and hygiene practices among rural women, benefiting over 3000 women and adolescent girls in FY24. The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) program, held on the 9th of every month, offers comprehensive and quality antenatal care to over 500 pregnant women annually. Furthermore, the Ni-kshay Mitra Program supports the Government of India’s ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ by raising tuberculosis awareness, providing nutritional support, and extending specialized care.
