Paradip Port made history on Sunday by emerging victorious in the 46th All India Major Port Football Championship 2024-25, securing a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win over VOC Port, Tuticorin. The match, held at Gopabandhu Stadium here, ended in a goalless draw after regulation time, but Paradip triumphed in the ensuing shootout to claim the coveted title.
The grand occasion was graced by P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority (PPA), who presented the winner and runner-up trophies alongside Nilabhra Dasgupta, Deputy Chairman of PPA.
Visakhapatnam Port Authority was also honoured for displaying exemplary sportsmanship and awarded the Fair Play Trophy.
Over the last five days, the tournament saw intense competition from eight major ports, each vying for top honours. Paradip Port Authority, in collaboration with the Major Ports Sports Control Board, successfully organized the highly anticipated event.
D.N. Sondhi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, presided over the award ceremony. Other key officials, including Dr. D.P. Sethy, Secretary, Rabi Dash, Co-ordinator, and Ranjan Rashmi Beura, Joint Secretary of the Organizing Committee, were also present to witness the thrilling conclusion of the championship.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Paradip Port, adding to its legacy in sports and underscoring its commitment to fostering athletic excellence.
