Lanjigarh, November 11, 2024 (TBB Bureau): Vedanta Lanjigarh, India’s leading producer of smelter-grade alumina and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, organized the first-ever school-level Zonal Sports Meet 2024. The event, held at the DAV Vedanta International School in Lanjigarh — the region’s first English medium school, educating over 4,000 children — marked a historic occasion for the district, bringing together young athletes from across Odisha.
The Zonal Meet saw participation from ten schools in football and four schools in archery, aimed at discovering and nurturing Odisha’s promising athletic talents. A total of 190 students from eight districts showcased their skills and engaged in spirited competition, embodying the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta’s Alumina Business, accompanied by Sadananda Hota, Principal of DAV Lanjigarh. Both dignitaries highlighted the vital role sports play in developing physical fitness, discipline, and character among young minds, stressing the importance of sportsmanship and community engagement.
Speaking on the occasion, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO – Alumina Business, Vedanta Ltd., remarked, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe empowering youth through skill development and sports is essential for building a brighter future. The sports meet kicked off with an exhilarating match between DAV Lanjigarh and DAV Talcher, setting a high-energy tone for the event. DAV Lanjigarh clinched victory in both the Under-19 and Under-14 football categories, demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship, and leaving spectators inspired.
