As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, JSW Steel Limited, Odisha has extended support for the “Adopt an animal” programme of city-based Nandankanan Zoological Park, by adopting all the 27 tigers for a year. The Company has given Rs 29 lakh for this purpose
A draft for Rs 29 lakh was handed over to the Nandankanan Zoo authorities at its 61st foundation day function held on Tuesday. The amount will be spent for the healthcare and food of tigers and other animals which have taken a hit due to paucity of funds due to as the Park was closed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking about the initiative, Ranjan Nayak, COO – JSW Steel Ltd Barbil, Odisha said, “Coronavirus pandemic has caused significant disruption to businesses world over, but the Zoos seems to have been struggling the most with lack of visitors. It is for the larger cause of preservation of fauna and tigers in particular which is our national animal, that we have taken this small step. We are thankful to everyone who has been standing for this noble cause.”
Speaking during the Foundation Day function, Rakesh Mishra, Head (HR), JSW Steel Ltd, Barbil Odisha lauded the efforts of Nandankanan staff who had given their best in taking care of the animals during the pandemic.
Present among others, were Odisha Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha, Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Sushant Rout, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment) Dr. Mona Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Hari Shankar Upadhyay, Nandankanan Director Shashi Paul, officials from Nandankanan, visitors from all walks of life and Public Relations and CSR team of JSW Steel Ltd.
