Hindalco’s healthcare initiatives at Sambalpur benefit over 14,000 people

With the objective of ensuring better and more meaningful lives for locals, the   Aditya Birla Group flagship company Hindalco at Sambalpur, has taken a number of healthcare initiatives as part of its community engagement. In the year 2021, around 14,000 people in 12 villages of Hirakud benefited through these initiatives.

Under the company’s “Health Care at Doorstep” programme, needy people are provided with free medical consultancy and medicines at their doorsteps, informed Kailash Pandey, Cluster Head – Hindalco, Sambalpur Cluster.

“We always want the society around us to stay healthy. We have plans to extend our healthcare services further which will benefit the community immensely,” said Pandey.

In response to people’s needs, Hindalco organised 3 mega multispecialty health camps recently at Larpank village and Hirakud in which over 1500 patients were offered healthcare services in Gynaecology, Medicine, Pediatrics, Skin, ENT and Cancer related diseases.

Alongside two mega blood donation camps were organized by the company to cater to the critical need for blood in Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital and VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science & Research), Burla. In these two camps 574units of blood were collected. Sambalpur District Superintendent of Police B Gangadhar lauded the efforts of Hindalco for organizing such mega blood donation camps.

In the Dental and Women’s Health Screening camps more than 300 patients availed specialized medical consultations from experts.

Besides, Hindalco, in partnership with the Hirakud Hospital, is engaged in camps and cataract surgeries for senior citizens in Hirakud and adjoining areas of the Sambalpur district. The programme has seen close to 150 vision care operations as of now.

Dr Bharat Dash, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Sambalpur also lauded the efforts of Hindalco for taking care of the health of the people of Hirakud, while recounting the support extended by Hindalco during Covid pandemic. During the second and third wave of the pandemic, Hindalco supported the District Administration and Health Department with 50 jumbo cylinders, 20 oxygen concentrators, 4000 antigen kits, 100 PPE KITs, 5 ICU beds, 11 Ambulances, medicines and 4 Boleros etc.  All these programs were organised under the supervision and coordination of Krishna Padhi, Head-HR of Hirakud complex and Dr. Subrata Chatterjee, Chief Medical Officer.
