Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has successfully achieved the highest ever annual target of 200 million cubic metres (MCuM) overburden removal (OBR) fixed for the current financial year.

The Coal India subsidiary on Sunday went past this target of 200 MCuM, stepping towards a new record of OBR.

OBR, which refers to removal of top-soil to expose the coal seams making them ready for mining, strengthens the company’s future outlook of continuous growth in coal production to meet the rising demand of fossil fuel next fiscal.

In his congratulatory message to the employees, MCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director OP Singh said, “Achieving the figure of 200 million cubic metres OBR speaks volumes about excellent coordination and the unit level leadership in the company.”

With 11 more days to go, the company is poised to achieve new records in all the major parameters of coal production, dispatch and OBR, MCL sources said.
