As a part of its CSR initiatives, SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has sponsored 60 poor and underprivileged local youth drawn from periphery villages for undergoing skill development training at Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Bhubaneswar under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

In a function organised at Institute of Peripheral Development, CSR Office, Sector-20 on December 3, RSP ED (Works) SR Suryawanshi interacted with the 2nd batch of selected students under the scheme.

RSP CGM (TA & CSR) Ajay Kumar Nayak, GM (CSR) Munmun Mittra, AGM (CSR) TB Toppo, other officers and staff of the CSR Department were present on the occasion.

The ED (Works) urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunity and not just get employment but to develop entrepreneur skills in future. He also flagged off the bus carrying the second batch of 30 students who proceeded to join the course. It is noteworthy that the 1st batch of 30 students under the scheme was sent earlier in September, 2022.

Notably, RSP had sponsored 10 students in 2021-22 under the CSR scheme and all of them got placements in various companies in the campus selection of the institution. Considering the 100 percent employment opportunity, the purview of the CSR initiative has been expanded this year under the guidance of RSP DIC Atanu Bhowmick. The Steel Plant will incur an estimated expenditure of Rs. 60.60 lakh for the project.

CIPET will impart the 6 month long Skill development training in ‘Machine Operator – Plastic Processing (MO-PP)’ to the beneficiaries, who have been chosen from the Colonies and peripheral blocks of RSP.  During the training, the students will learn the theory as well as the practical aspects of the sophisticated plastic technology in the state-of-the-art laboratories of CIPET. The program offers placement after training through CIPET’s Training and Placement cell for the sustainable livelihood of these youngsters. Besides the skill development, the programme shall also help impart entrepreneur skills to the trainees. The RSP-CSR sponsorship for this course covers total expenditure of students for admission and course fees, books, hostel and food charges etc.
