RSP’s Silicon Steel Mill sets new record in monthly production

ROURKELA, AUGUST 1, 2022

The Silicon Steel Mill (SSM) of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set a new monthly production record by rolling 6,626 tonnes of saleable steel in July, 2022 surpassing the previous best recorded in July, 2013.

RSP Director In-Charge (DIC) Atanu Bhowmick visited the SSM Shop Floor on Monday to congratulate the SSM collective for the outstanding performance.

Congratulating the collective, the DIC said, “The stupendous performance evokes wonderful feelings and reassures us that the team SSM will carry forward the momentum to create many more new benchmarks in the coming days.”

Commending the exemplary teamwork of SSM, ED (Works) SR Suryawanshi urged everyone to remain undeterred in their pursuit for excellence and touch the monthly 7,000 tonne production mark very soon.

ED (P&A) PK Satapathy expressed happiness over the brilliant performance of the Mill while ED (Projects) PK Sahoo spoke highly of the team SSM which has helped the Mill continually improve its performance.

ED (MM) S Tripathy reiterated the wholehearted support of Materials Management Department in terms of consumables & spares to SSM.

In his address CGM In-charge (F&A) AK Behuria said that the record production from SSM augurs well for the plant because of the high NSR of the products of the Mill.

GM In-charge (SSM) CR Mishra thanked the SSM collective and all the supporting departments Hot Strip Mill-2, SMS-1, PPC, RCL, Roll Shop, T&RM and CMO for the well synchronized effort. He also assured the senior Executives that the collective would make determined efforts to create new benchmarks.

The Silicon Steel Mill produces energy efficient Steel Cold Rolled Non-Oriented (CRNO) which is an essential raw material for manufacturing of electrical equipment like generators, motors, relays, small transformers etc. RSP has the distinction of being the first in the country to start commercial production of the CRNO at the SSM.
