Aditya Birla Group’s Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL), in partnership with Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundations (BRLF), has initiated Project UANAT (Utkal’s Action for Agricultural Transformation) in Kashipur Block in Rayagada District and Thuamala Rampur Block in Kalahandi District to help farmers reap a rich harvest.

This CSR project is centered on farm-based livelihood interventions that could make a phenomenal difference to the farmers. The most endearing aspect is the support to 147 women SHG members. They are trained in mushroom, oyster and paddy cultivation. All these women have applauded UAIL as their earning capacity has risen by Rs.3,000 to Rs.4,000, as a result of the new farming initiatives.

The Sai Baba SHG of Kucheipadar village is most appreciative of the UANAT Project along with other SHGs.

UAIL Unit Head Mazhar Beig, who roots for the underprivileged said that “through the CSR and Sustainability team, they will bolster the welfare of farmers. This team visits the project frequently, aiding the SHG members, motivating them to scale their activities.  They close the marketing loop as well, providing a 360o connect.”

In Odisha, the Aditya Birla Group reaches out to more than 5 lakh people touching more than 2 lakh lives in 128 villages of five districts.  Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development Chairperson Rajashree Birla has outlined the Group CSR vision, which is “to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which we operate.  In sync with the UN SDGs our endeavour is to lift the burden of poverty weighing down the underserved and foster inclusive growth.  In doing so, build a better, sustainable way of life for the weaker and marginalized sections of society.”
